A pair of scandinavian artists recently unveiled a controversial gay
monument in Berlin. Lesbians in particular are not happy about it.
November 2007. Artists Ingmar Dragset and Michael Elmgreen give a lecture in Berlin's venerated Universität der Künste (UdK) arts academy. The lecture comes as a relief. The pair present their work to the 'macho' art students - artists are often not particularly gay-friendly - and try to resist the urge to act hetero. They casually state that they were a couple for a long time. "We worked, lived and slept together. But it was too much, thankfully those days are gone." Like the days, they continue, when they were asked, as gay artists, to brighten up 'serious' group exhibitions...
